New Diving Feature for Arlesey Lagoon Submitted by Rod Reeves on 06-Jan-2010 14:04:47. Updated on 10-Jan-2010 22:32:55 by Adrian Colegate
Paul Beckett – Training Officer for Stevenage SAA Club advises that they have sunk an old gnarled aluminium outboard propeller into Arlesey and tethered it using 20 metres or so of buried SMB line to a commonly known feature.
They will be sending out their wannabe Dive Leaders with a monitor diver to watch how they get on with the task of finding and retrieving it. They feel by using a relatively small ‘lost’ object it will be more realistic and more of a challenge to trainee Dive Leaders, however by using a hidden tether the target will not be lost and it will serve as an asset for all three clubs who regularly use Arlesey.
The propeller now lies somewhere within a 3 – 4 metre radii from a commonly known feature, if it is seen by any Mid Herts Divers, please leave it in situ for Stevenage SAA to find it and recover it, unless anyone wishes to complete their own Search and Rescue training / practise but then ensure that it is returned to the lagoon bed and the retrieval line buried in the silt once more.
Location of the Propeller: about 3 or 4 metres from a commonly known feature!
