Since my last report things have got steadily busier and busier, we are now doing three boat trips a day as well as morning and afternoon trips off the beach. On top of this we are running back to back courses, mostly open water and scuba diver but with some advanced open water, rescue and divemaster thrown in.
The staff numbers have increased accordingly and we now have four instructors one English, one Dutch, one German and a Uruguayan. Plus one Divemaster and three Divemasters in training.
Out at sea the big shoals of Barracuda seemed to have moved on but in Cala Molins, one of our beach dive sites, thousands of baby Barracuda are growing up. Sole and other flatfish are now regulars on the sandy areas and more cuttlefish are being seen in the shallow areas off of Punta de l’Avancada.
One diver took a tantalising photograph of a fish he couldn’t identify, he didn’t like to get too close and it is partially hidden behind some sea grass, best guess is it is some kind of ray but until it shows itself again it will remain a mystery.
Since May the weather here has been very hot but occasionally the wind, usually in the afternoon, causes the sea to get a little choppy. When I say choppy I mean choppy for here, but it makes the Channel seem like a millpond. However we have lost a couple of days diving due to the weather. Most of the time, however, it is calm and clear. I dived to 30 metres recently and could see the bottom as I left the surface.
Finally some statistics: I have made 193 dives, 78 dive leading and 115 training dives. I have taken out 522 divers and 284 students or try scubas. I have certified 46 divers and spent over 55 hours in the water.
I see from the website that some of you may visit later in the year, if so I look forward to seeing you then, if not I will catch up with you in October or November back In England in the “clubhouse”.
Best regards to you all,
Sid. |
